I had the opportunity to share a tutorial over at, The Ribbon Retreat’s Blog.
So just in case you missed it here it is.
The Ribbon Retreat offers a great variety of Ribbons to choose from but I must admit I am a bit partial to their,
For this particular project I wanted to show the variations of colors giving a Rainbow effect. I used 9 different Vintage Ribbons Total these were my final selection.
034 Forsythia, 060 Julip Green, 061 Reseda, 062 Winter Aqua, 063 Spring Green, 064 Moss Green, 066 Churchill Green, 067 Jungle Green and 073 Lime.
So the first thing I did was,
What’s nice about this project is that if you already have an existing skirt that you want to dress up and bring some new life to it this is a VERY simple way to do just that. Or you can make one from scratch. I went with making a new skirt, using a basic white cotton. I first finished the bottom edge with a Serger and then hemmed.
I pinned and sewed my first bottom ribbon in place being sure to use matching thread.
Continue this same process with each ribbon.
I then gathered the top of the skirt with a ruffle foot on my sewing machine
I wanted I high waistband for this skirt so I cut my piece 6 inches wide, finished the top edge with a serged stitch and pressed over about 1.5 inches and topped stitched ( be sure to leave an opening for your elastic ) then pinned the waistband right side to skirt top and sewed then finishing with a serged edge.
Well I must say that our daughter is THRILLED with her new Vintage Ribbon Skirt.
And she’s not the only one.
I would like to give a Big thank you to The Ribbon Retreat for having me over
If you would like to create something similar be sure to check out the wide variety of Ribbons that
The Ribbon Retreat carries.
Hope you Enjoy!!

Oh, Angelina. This skirt is adorable. I have to tell you, I am one of those people who say they don’t sew, they just glue. But I have a machine a friend gave me and I have great hopes…I do really well at sewing the wrong things together!!!!! I do enjoy free form sewing, though. It’s a lot more forgiving!
Love this post.
