DIY Paper Piecing Hexagons

Some of you may remember that I won a Fabric Giveaway a couple weeks back.

I was so excited not only to win, but to also receive the SWEET surprise of some English Paper Piecing Hexagons.

Kerri from Sew Dearly Loved sent me the 1 1/4″ Hexagons.

Thankfully instructions were included :)   which made it possible to get quickly to work!

The instructions said to place the Paper Piece to the wrong side of the fabric and cut the fabric 1/4″ larger than the paper piece.

Pull the fabric in the shape of your piece and Baste, be sure to hold your fabric firmly and bring needle through the paper and fabric.

It looks as though I didn’t quite center my piece on the fabric.

Some people say that these…

Can become quite addictive. I am beginning to think they are Right!!!

Aren’t they Pretty ????

Blessings,

Angelina

They are just darling, and the fabric is lovely. Do you leave the paper inside the material?

Hello Dawn, thank you for your comment. You leave the paper inside while you whip stitch all of your hexagons together and then you snip your basting stitches and pull out the paper. The paper can actually be used multiple times. I have yet to make it to that point but I am looking forward to it. :)

These are so beautiful! I love the patterns. I just have a question: what would you use the hexagons for?

      Angelina says:

Thank you, Iris. At this point I am not sure what I am going to do with them. But I have been thinking appliqueing them onto bags and aprons. I don’t think I am quite ready to tackle a full quilt yet :)

What an addicting habit. I bet that is something you start on and just can’t put down. Well, maybe some people could. I probably couldn’t. Really pretty.

Oh have SO much fun with those. I look forward to seeing how it all turns out! I think you could totally do a “honey comb” styled quilt – baby sized – or a runner to go over the foot of your bed… what ever you do – I’m sure it will be gorgeous! :)

Okay, I guess I am the partypooper… it seems very tedious to me. I would not even want to start on it.
Because I love quilting… you would need so many for a full quilt.
I do like the look and loved that you shared how to do it. I have wondered about it a long time.
Hope I did not sound to negative. I am actually a very very positive person. ;)

    Have a lovely weekend.

LOL!!!! I actually can’t picture myself making a full quilt out of these.. As I am sure it would be a HUGE undertaking. I am thinking more like Pot Holder appliques or Pin Cushions Etc…. Something a bit more manageable :)

I can see exactly why they might become addictive! I’ve been away from blog visiting for a month and am just now trying to get caught up. I need to go back and see all the wonderful stuff you’ve been up to. Can’t wait to see what you do with your hexagons, too.

Hope all is well with you and the Great Expectation!
