For those of you who follow me on Facebook know that we had to take our son into the emergency room earlier this week. He woke up (extremely) yellow, from head to toe. We were of course alarmed and immediately my husband took him to the E.R. they quickly began to run a series of test on him and determined that his, White and Red blood cell count was very low and there was something going on with his liver. They began to determine if they would keep him there at the hospital or transport him to another. The E.R. doctor that was working with him had just interned with a Liver Specialist (praise the Lord) at UCSD . Bryce was transported there and has been there since undergoing a number of test to determine the cause.
Bryce has since undergone a Liver Biopsy, Bone Marrow Sample, CT Scan, MRI and just moments ago a scope to make sure there is no internal bleeding going on.
My husband just called and said they found no internal bleeding but did take a biopsy of his small intestine to make sure no damage has occurred there.
We still don’t have any conclusive findings but they are leaning torwards,
This is a genetic dysfunction in the immune system where the immune system attacks the liver.
The doctors are still quite surprised, because Bryce shows no signs of being sick other than his yellow skin and blood results.
The Biopsy of the liver came back and it is damaged, the team of doctors are discussing the type of treatment would be best. One of those treatments is the use of Steroids, which will surpress the immune system and give the liver a chance to regenerate. Or do a liver transplant. We of course are praying for the the steroids to work.
There are several teams of Doctors working on Bryce and they are all perplexed because none of his symptoms match the diagnosis and the fact that he is not acting nor does he feel sick.
Because Bryce’s immune system is compromised we are unable to go down to the hospital. As of now my husband is the only one able to be with Bryce. (Thankfully).
So I am so grateful for this Blogging World. It will provide something productive to do and it will help my days to go by a bit faster.
Thank you so much to all those who have been praying for Bryce. It is so greatly appreciated.
I will be updating periodically on Fb and here on the blog.
