On a personal note

For those of you who follow me on Facebook know that we had to take our son into the emergency room earlier this week. He woke up (extremely) yellow, from head to toe. We were of course alarmed and immediately my husband took him to the E.R.  they quickly began to run a series of test on him and determined that his, White and Red blood cell count was very low and there was something going on with his liver. They began to determine if they would keep him there at the hospital or transport him to another. The E.R. doctor that was working with him had just interned with a Liver Specialist (praise the Lord) at UCSD . Bryce was transported there and has been there since undergoing a number of test to determine the cause.

Bryce has since undergone a Liver Biopsy, Bone Marrow Sample, CT Scan, MRI and just moments ago a scope to make sure there is no internal bleeding going on.

My husband just called and said they found no internal bleeding but did take a biopsy of his small intestine to make sure no damage has occurred there.

We still don’t have any conclusive findings but they are leaning torwards,

Autoimmune Hepatitis

This is a genetic dysfunction in the immune system where the immune system attacks the liver.

The doctors are still quite surprised, because Bryce shows no signs of being sick other than his yellow skin and blood results.

The Biopsy of the liver came back and it is damaged, the team of doctors are discussing the type of treatment would be best. One of those treatments is the use of Steroids, which will surpress the immune system and give the liver a chance to regenerate. Or do a liver transplant. We of course are praying for the the steroids  to work.

There are several teams of Doctors working on Bryce and they are all perplexed because none of his symptoms match the diagnosis and the fact that he is not acting nor does he feel sick.

Because Bryce’s immune system is compromised we are unable to go down to the hospital. As of now my husband is the only one able to be with Bryce. (Thankfully).

So I am so grateful for this Blogging World. It will provide something productive to do and it will help my days to go by a bit faster.

Thank you so much to all those who have been praying for Bryce. It is so greatly appreciated.

I will be updating periodically on Fb and here on the blog.

  6. I will keep in in my prayers as well as you and dad. Good news he is being watched carefully and you all are in God’s hands. Di

  8. Maureen Brown says:

Hi: I follow you as a blogger and as the Mother of 3 I am thinking of you and sending good vibes to you and Bryce. From personal experience I know that you can still be ill without exhibitng the “usual” symtoms. He’s in a good place!

  9. Oh Angelina, I am so so so sorry you are going through this. I am praying for Bryce and your family. I hope he has a good (and speedy) recovery and that you are able to get some answers soon. Hugs x a million… Malia

  10. I will keep Bryce, you, and your family in my prayers. There is nothing scarier than a sick child. Sending you tons of ((((hugs))))!!!

  11. Our prayers are with you.

  12. Prayimg for you and your family. It is especially hard when it is one of your children..

  13. May God guide the hands of the doctor’s and nurse’s and give them all the knowledge they need to find the best way to treat Bryce. May God give you and your family comfort through this trying time. God Bless you and your family.

  14. I am praying for you and your beautiful son

  15. Life can certainly throw us some curve balls, huh?! My own personal experience, both as a patient and as a former Pediatric RN, has shown me that. Steroids can do amazing things for/to the human body, while having some pretty icky side-effects. I’ll pray specifically that Bryce begins to heal quickly, knowing that his Healing will come from The Great Physician.

Angelina, doctors and medical tests & the results can often be so wrong. In Oct. 2008, I was sent home from Mayo Clinic with a prognosis of “maybe” 6 weeks to live. Yet, here I am! Definitely not well, but alive. He is so Good! I have and will continue to pray for your Mama-Heart and for Bryce and all of your family members. Also for every person who comes into contact with Bryce. That they will have kind hearts, Mercy and Grace in the times of physical pain and a Wisdom that comes from above in making decisions for your sweet son.
    Love to All ~ Jo

  16. Hi, Angelina

I am lifting your son up in prayer. I will be praying for you and your husband for strength and wisdom, but most importantly for the doctor’s to have wisdom on the right treatment for your son.

  17. my heart goes out to you, angelina. i know what you are going through… one of mine was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis type 2, last month.

i’m so sorry to hear your son is going through this. i will keep you and your beautiful family in my prayers.

    • Oh, Thank you Molly. I would love to talk to you about it. Would you mine if I email you or you can email me?

  18. So sorry! I hope they have an accurate diagnosis and treatment soon. Our neighbor boy has been going through chemo once a month for the past year and his mom mentioned that the doctors and nurses are always amazed that he doesn’t feel sicker with it than he is because he gets an unusually large dose. They figure it’s a tender mercy…even though he’s had to go through chemo it hasn’t been as bad as it could be. Just a thought…not that I think your son has cancer, just that sometime God sends a miracle even if it’s not the miracle we would have chosen.

  19. Blessings to you and your family .. Your family is now in our prayers for a healthy recovery
Since I do not have a facebook account; I had no idea and when I read this; first thing I could thing of was to pray for you and your family.

What a lucky boy to have such a wonderful family that loves you sooooo much!
