SPRING!!!
I don’t think I will ever get tired of saying it!!
How about you?
It’s the Season where, Temperatures are just right, the Air seems so Crisp and Clean and Walks in the Park are the perfect medicine!
Well, It’s a Spring Thing is in FULL Swing and talk about some Pretty Inspiration going on.
Yesterday, the very talented Heather from a Setting For Four shared with us a Beautiful and Spring Inspired Mantel and Vanessa from At the Picket Fence will be sharing something SPRINGY tomorrow!! Which I am sure it is going to Fabulous like everything else she does. So be sure to check out these great post.
Today I am going to be sharing with you a Simple Tote/Bag that you can put together for those Lovely Spring days that are soon coming!
I started out by drawing a basic bag shape. You can be creative here, there really is no Right or Wrong shape/size.
Your going to want to cut 4 pieces total. 2 for the main bag and 2 for the lining.
I cut 1 strip on the fold of the fabric at 6 inches wide.
I finished the edges with a serger ( you can use a zig zag stitch ) and then turned them over about 1/2 an inch, pressed and top stitched. Then I gathered up the center of the fabric. You can do this buy using a Ruffle foot or Taking your LONGEST stitch length on your machine and pulling the bobbin thread to gather.
Then Sew your Ruffle Center to the middle of your Front Piece of the bag and then take the Right sides of your fabric and sew along the sides and bottom. Leaving the Top open. Do the same thing with the lining of your fabric but leave an opening at the bottom for turning your bag right side out.
For the straps I cut 2 pieces on the fold of the fabric at 3.5 inches. I placed right sides of my strips together and sewed up the sides and leaving the ends open for turning right sides out. Press and then Top stitch.
Then pin your straps to the right side of your main bag.
I kept things simple by adding velcro to my lining. You can add snaps, zipper or even a BIG button. Place your main bag inside your lining, right sides together and remove the pins from your straps and now re-pin it with the lining.
Turn your bag right sides out and stitch your opening closed.
And, there you have it folks!!
A simple Spring Tote to brighten your day!
Embellish with a flower or leave at is. Either way your sure to look, Cute walking in the park with your New Spring bag!
